Analysis on China Imp.& Exp. of textile & Apparel in Feb.2006

According to the information from China Customs, total China's import. & export. value of textile and apparel in Feb.2006 reached USD 7.69 billion dollars, increasing 6.6 per cent compared with the same period of last year, in which the gross export value of textile and apparel was USD 6.57 billion dollars, increasing 4.3 per cent compared with the same period of last year, and the gross import value was USD 1.12 billion, up 23 per cent on-year-year. From Jan. to Feb. 2006, the accumulative total was USD 19.01 billion, up 14.6 per cent year-on-year, in which the export was USD 16.75 billion, up 15.3 per cent year-on-year, the import was USD 2.26 billion, up 9.8 per cent year-on-year.

China's export to EU and USA continued to go down

In Jan. and Feb., 2006, China’s export of textile & apparel to EU was USD 2.87 billion, up 3.6 per cent year-on-year; the export to USA was USD 2.34 billion, down 2 per cent. In which the export of the products restricted by quota fell evidently. There were 10 restricted sorts to export to EU that went down in value by 30 per cent in Jan. to Feb.; and there were 21 restricted sorts to export to USA that went down in value by 27 per cent.

In accordance to the American statistics, American import from India, Pakistan, Indonesia, etc. increased rapidly in Jan. 2006. In which the import from India exceeded China in 3 months continuously.

Japan that overtook USA became China’s second export market. China’s export of textile & apparel to Japan was USD 2.47 billion, up by 11 per cent year-on-year. It is obvious that China’s export to Russia and Korea increased by 40 per cent.

At present, EU and USA took up 31.1 per cent in total China’s export, down by 4 per cent compared with the same period of last year. And Southeast countries, Latin America and Eastern European countries is going to become China’s main export ones.

All sorts to export increased slowly

In Jan to Feb. 2006, China’s textile export was USD 6 billion, up by 14.9 per cent year-on-year; the apparel export was USD 10.76, up by 15.5 per cent year-on-year. In apparel products, the export of knitting, woven and accessories increased by 20.6 per cent, 12.2 per cent and 16.8 per cent respectively in which the export of cotton apparel kept up by about 30 per cent and export of the chemical fiber and wool apparel increased by 16.5 per cent and 13.9 per cent respectively, but the silk apparel export came down 8 per cent.

In Feb. 2006, China’s apparel export to USA has kept down by 10 per cent since Jan. It is clear that China’s export to USA kept down 8.6 per cent in accumulative total. And China’s export to EU also kept down increasingly.

China’s yarn export increased greatly by 30 per cent, the fabric export went up by 7.3 per cent. In all the sorts of yarns and fabrics, the cotton products export increased by 18.2 per cent, chemical fiber products up by 1.2 per cent, wool products down by 5.5 per cent and silk products up by 35.8 per cent, but the export of non-woven went up by over 40 per cent and home textiles went up by 16.2 per cent.

Among the main export countries and areas of textile and apparel, USA was the top one, Japan and Hong Kong PR China became the top two and three. In Jan, China export to USA reached 1.53 billion dollars, increasing 8.45% compared with the same period of last year; export to Japan was 1.436 billion dollars, increasing 16.80% compared with the same period of last year; export to Hong Kong PR China was up to 1.326 billion dollars, up 11.99% compared with the same period of last year. Total value of export to the above three countries and area reached 4.292 billion dollars, taking up 41.18% of total export of textile and apparel. Export to EU reached 1.759 billion dollars, increasing14.52% compared with the same period of last year. Export to EU and USA reached 3.288 billion dollars, increasing 11.62% compared with the same period of last year. Export to other countries except EU and USA reached 7.133 billion dollars, increasing 30.50% compared with the same period of last year.

The unit price went up

The unit price of apparel to export from China started to go up in Feb. In which the unit price of the woven apparel increased by 8.6 per cent, 2 per cent more than in Jan. 2006. But the unit price  of knitting apparel to export came down 1.1 per cent, up 1 per cent compared with Jan. And the unit price of apparel to export to USA increased by 15 per cent averagely, and 28 per cent to EU, kept the same price to non-restricted countries or regions.
