China's cotton import through Guangdong port sees drastic surge

Some 95,000 tons of cotton valued at US$120 million were imported through Guangdong port into China between January and May, representing a year-on-year growth of 100% and 130% respectively, according to customs statistics.
The statistics also revealed that the average import price jumped 12.3% to US$1,306.6 per ton.
During the reviewed period, cotton import from the US jumped 32% to 43,000 tons, accounting for 45.7% of the import total. Import from India surged 570% to 20,000 tons, representing a share of 21.1% out of the total. Import from Australia went up 870% to 12,000 tons, representing a share of 12.3%.
