India : Cotton body sees exports doubling

A balance sheet for the next season drawn up by the association showed demand rising by 44 lakh bales to 315 lakh bales.
According to the association, besides imports and production, the demand will be met by a stock of 67.75 lakh bales carried over from this season. Overall supply next season has been pegged at 386.50 lakh bales.
Consumption by spinning mills has been put at 210 lakh bales (200 lakh bales this season), while small units?? offtake is seen at 21 lakh bales (20 lakh bales). Non-mill consumption is seen unchanged at 19 lakh bales and the exports have been added to total demand.
Despite the rise in demand, the next season could see the carryover stock rising to 71.50 lakh bales.
On the production side, the North Zone ?C comprising Punjab, Haryana, upper and lower Rajasthan ?C is expected to produce 43 lakh bales (38.25 lakh bales). Output in the Central Zone ?C consisting of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh ?C is seen up at 189 lakh bales (171.75 lakh bales). Production in Gujarat is expected to cross 100 lakh bales again after having dropped to 90 lakh bales this season.
