China's first-half 2009 textile exports fall 11 percent

According to statistics released by the China General Administration of Customs, January-June 2009 exports of textiles and apparel fell by 10.9% year on year to US$72,790 million. Of this, textiles dropped 15.2% to US$26,940 million, and apparel declined by 8.5% to US$45,860 million.
Although exports of textiles and apparel decreased, the decrease was smaller than the decrease in the overall nationwide exports of goods. Exports also rallied slightly in June, and June apparel exports registered double-digit growth compared to the previous month.
June exports of textiles and apparel decreased by 10.1% year on year to US$13,950 million: textiles, US$4,910 million (down 13.1%) and apparel, US$9,040 million (down 8.5%).
Compared to the previous month, June exports of textiles and apparel rose by 13.3%, of which textiles grew by 0.3% and apparel by 21.9%.
