Trends in spun yarn prices were mixed in the past two weeks in China. Cotton yarn prices stayed very stable in line with a similar stability in cotton lint prices. Viscose yarn prices dramatically declined over the period, following a sharp drop in viscose staple fiber prices. Polyester spun yarn prices slightly increased or stayed unchanged, depending on counts.

Major trends in spun yarn prices were mixed in the last two weeks in China.

Spun Cotton Yarn
Cotton yarn prices did not really change, in line with the current stability in cotton fiber prices.

Average price for combed 32s remained at 22,500 yuan per ton (US$3.23 per kilo).

Combed 40s is being offered at 23,500 yuan per ton (US$3.38 per kilo).

Cotton yarn prices are not expected rising in the near future, in line with a seasonal slowdown in China's textile production.

Spun Viscose Yarn
By contrast, spun viscose yarn prices further fell in the last two weeks.

The new decline was triggered by another drop in viscose staple fiber prices, down 900 yuan per ton in only two weeks at 16,000 yuan per metric ton (US$2.81 per kilo).

Spun yarn prices followed a similar trend, reflecting the low level in demand from yarn processors.

Average price for 30s fell from 21,800 yuan by mid-May down to 20,600 yuan per ton (US$2.96 per kilo), a decline of 1,200 yuan per ton (17 cents per kilo).

Average price for 40S lost 1,100 yuan per ton (16 cents per kilo) at 21,700 yuan (US$3.12 per kilo).

The level in transactions also sharply decreased.

Spun Polyester Yarn
Average price of spun polyester yarns slightly increased in the past two weeks, in line with a short-lived rebound in prices of polyester staple fibers.

With PSF prices being up 300 yuan per ton (4 cents per kilo), polyester yarn prices rose 100 yuan per ton for 100% polyester 50s at 16,300 yuan per ton (US$2.35 per kilo).

100% 32s however remained at the same level at 14,400 yuan per ton US$2.07 per kilo).
