China’s Clothing Market Enters A Brand Times - SDRC

State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC) said recently that China’s current price indices for clothing have picked up; garments market has entered a new cycle of branding.
Clothing market is upgrading comprehensively. From 1998 the clothing consumer and retail price index for clothing, shoes, and hats all fell below 100 and remained so for 8 years. The two indices on monthly statistics recovered and climbed above 100 in October 2006.
Retail of middle and high-grade consumer garments record a dramatic rise in clothing sales price, in the past two years.

All the signs indicate that the new round of a restructuring is needed for clothing market. Chinese garment market is surely expected to give good performance in 2007. Opportunities and challenges coexist for large manufacturers.
