Zhoucun to Establish the Largest Silk Production Base of China

Recently, 12 silk textile projects were started up at Zhoucun District, Zibo, Shandong. These projects are totally invested into 820mln yuan, in aim of revitalizing silk textile industry of the area.
Zhoucun, reputed as "China Silk Town" and "China Textile Industry Base", has over 800 silk textile enterprises which employ more than 20 thousand workers. Its silk product output accounts for over one third of Shandong province, and 95% are exported. But the impaction from economic system shunt and global financial crisis greatly hurts the regional silk textile industry, and many enterprises slip into large operation difficulty.
To step out of the lurch, Zhoucun takes the chance of industry restructuring and upgrading brought by Plan to Adjust and Reinvigorate the Textile Industry promulgated by the State Council, and fixes jean clothing and silk home textiles as the major development trend. It decides to invest 820mln yuan in 2009-2010, to establish 12 projects including denim upgrading and reforming, wide-breadth silk jacquard weaving, China Technological Textile City, and 100 direct-sales brand shops.
In five years, the production capacity of Zhoucun will reach denim 150mln meters, jean clothing 50mln pieces, and woven silk 28mln meters. It will be the largest silk production base of China. Meanwhile, fixed assets investment, sales income, and profit tax will increase by 3 times, which grow by 15% averagely, to 9, 11.34 and 0.875 billion yuan respectively.
