Growers in Henan Province, the second largest cotton-growing province in the North China Plain, have planted a small amount of ELS seed varieties. Over 99 percent of China's ELS cotton production has always been concentrated in the western province of Xinjiang. Growers in Xinye County (part of the Henan cotton belt) planted 1,333 hectares to ELS seed variety Zhongmiansu number 46. This is the first time ELS cotton has been grown in Henan.
