Brazil reaches deal to limit Chinese textile imports until end-2008

Brazil's commerce and industry ministry said it has reached an agreement with the Chinese government which will limit 60 pct of its textiles imports from China until the end of 2008.
'China has agreed to limit exports of eight types of textiles to Brasil,' which represents 60 pct of imports, the ministry said.
The minstry added that China has not signed a similar import limitation agreement with Europe or the US.
According to data from the Brazillian textile industry association, import of Chinese textiles rose 43.1 pct in 2005 from a year earlier to 395 mln usd, or 23 pct of total textiles imports that year.
