Cinte Techtextil China - an ideal backdrop for symposium focused on technical textiles

International Conference on Fiber-Reinforced Membrane Technology and Structures to be held within Cinte Techtextil China Symposium 2004

Keeping visitors and exhibitors abreast of global innovations from the world of technical textiles and nonwovens, the biennial Cinte Techtextil China Symposium is scheduled to run from the 31 August – 2 September 2004. The symposium will be located at the Shanghai International Trade Centre, China, next door to the venue for Cinte Techtextil China - International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens which will open on 1 September and run until 3 September at INTEX, Shanghai.

The expansion of the technical textile industry in China continues to provide an ideal backdrop for the informative symposium which will focus on five main themes in 2004: The present status of technical textiles and development, Buildtech, Agrotech, Mobiltech and combined together Medtech and Protech.

The consumption of technical textiles has grown by an annual average of 11% since 1998. One sector of the technical textile industry that has experienced remarkable growth is the building and construction sector. In particular, the building of membrane structures has pushed the demand for technical textiles upwards as China prepares itself for the upcoming Olympic Games in 2008 and the World Expo in 2010.

Membrane structures, manufactured from PVC coated polyester fabrics or PTFE coated glass fabrics, can span large areas without the supporting structures used in conventional buildings. As they are made from textile fibres, membrane structures have a characteristic translucency which plays an important role in creating light and cheerful spaces, making people feel that they have been exposed to nature, whilst keeping them safely tucked behind weatherproof walls.

Currently there are over two billion square metres of membrane structure in use in sporting and leisure venues across China, a figure that is expected to grow by 30% annually. Domestic production currently falls below demand, consequently overseas manufacturers are being welcomed in to help meet the requirements of the architectural textile market.

At present the annual consumption of fibre-based roofing materials in China is around 35,000 tonnes, and with the ongoing construction of sports facilities, exhibition halls, transportation terminals and cultural venues, the opportunities for foreign manufacturers to increase sales are abundant.

Reflecting this, organisers of the Cinte Techtextil China Symposium have invited the China Textile International Exchange Centre (CTIEC) to hold the International Conference on Fiber-Reinforced Membrane Technology and Structure (IFRMC) within the Cinte Techtextil China Symposium programme. The conference will focus on the application and development of membrane structures, paying special attention to the increase in demand.

As well as the inclusion of the conference on membrane structures, the Cinte Techtextil China Symposium will also include top level discussions and presentations on technical textile development in China and around the world. Speakers will focus on the main application areas currently affecting the industry most dramatically including; Buildtech, Agrotech, Mobiltech, Medtech and Protech.

Cinte Techtextil China - International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens and the Cinte Techtextil China symposium are jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt, the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT and the China Nonwovens & Industrial Textiles Association (CNITA).
